Just one month ago, from October 11-12, the Beyblade 2025 World Championship was held in Tokyo, Japan. You might have never heard about this event, or even what a Beyblade is, so let’s dive into it and help understand why this championship is so loved!
What IS Beyblade?
Beyblades are often considered toys, as they are spinning tops used for fun or competitive gaming. Created by the company Takara, Beyblades were incredibly loved and popular in the late 1990s and 2000s. When using Beyblades, players launch the spinning tops into stadiums (Beystadium), trying to prevent the opponent's top from spinning or even pushing out of the arena. The first person to accomplish this will be the winner!! Technically, the tops were released in 1999 by Tomy, but Takara and Tomy merged in 2006, and now the toy falls under the Takara Tomy brand. Additionally, other companies have licensed the top and made it for their own regions, like Hasbro in many Western countries. Beyblade took audiences by storm in the early 2000s, and continues to today, with players reciting the famous line “Let it Rip!” as they launch their tops.
There are three components to a Beyblade: the first is the energy layer, which first contacts the opponent during collisions and absorbs some of the kinetic energy produced. Next, there is the forge disc, which is the ring that affects the weight of the Beyblade itself. This piece can come in various shapes and weights, affecting speed, collision strength, and overall performance! Lastly, there is a component called the “Performance Tip” which is the part that the Beyblade will come into contact with the surrounding stadium. Its width affects the speed and stamina of the top itself.
Beyblades also come in different types, which specific strengths and battle strategies. For example, attack Beyblades help with speed and power, and their flat tips, serrated layers, and uneven weight help them strike opponents quickly and aim to burst them out. On the other hand, defense beybaldes are known for their durability, thanks to their heavy, round shape and stable tip, which allow them to withstand significant hits. There is also a stamina type of Beyblade, with a long spin time thanks to its narrow tip and evenly balanced disc, letting it outlast opponents. Lastly, I want to mention the balance type and its incredible versatility. It is made of mixed parts from other types and adapts to various matchups and strategies, becoming a popular choice for competitors! All in all, Beyblades are some of the coolest tops with over 5,000 different combinations available for mixing and matching components for optimal performance! So if you love Beyblade or want to see what the excitement’s all about, now’s the time to jump in! Who knows. you could even be the next world champ!! Let it rip!
