World Cup's First Halftime Show

World Cup's First Halftime Show

Imagine you're watching the biggest soccer game in the world. Your favorite team is playing, the score is close, and then halftime arrives. Instead of just waiting for the second half to begin, the stadium suddenly fills with music, lights, and some of the world's biggest stars!

That's exactly what's happening at the 2026 FIFA World Cup Final. For the first time in World Cup history, FIFA is adding a special halftime show during the championship game. The final will take place on July 19 at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, and millions of fans around the world are expected to watch.

Who's Performing?

The halftime show will feature an incredible lineup of famous musicians, including:

  • Justin Bieber

  • Madonna

  • Shakira

  • BTS

  • Burna Boy

The show is being organized by Chris Martin, the lead singer of the band Coldplay. It will also include conductor Gustavo Dudamel and the PS22 Chorus, a famous New York children's choir. Shakira says she's excited to perform because this is something soccer fans have never seen before. "It's going to be pretty historic," she shared in an interview.

Why Is This Such a Big Deal?

If you've watched the Super Bowl, you probably know that halftime shows are famous for huge performances with music, dancers, and special effects. But soccer has always been different.

For almost 100 years, the FIFA World Cup Final has focused only on the game. Halftime has usually been a short break so players can rest, talk with their coaches, and get ready for the second half. This year, FIFA wants to mix sports and entertainment in a brand-new way.

Some fans think it will make the event even more exciting, while others wonder if it could distract from the match itself. Since this has never happened before, no one knows exactly how it will turn out!

More Than Just Music

The halftime show isn't only about entertainment. It will help support the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund, a program working to give more children around the world access to education and opportunities to play soccer.

The goal is to raise $100 million for schools, learning programs, and youth sports. FIFA has also announced that $1 from every ticket sold for World Cup matches will go toward the project. That means every fan who buys a ticket is also helping children around the world.

Will Halftime Be Longer?

Normally, soccer halftime lasts 15 minutes. The performance itself is expected to last about 11 minutes, but workers also need time to bring the stage onto the field, set everything up, and remove it before the players return. Because of that, experts believe halftime could last 20 to 25 minutes. FIFA has not officially announced the final schedule yet, so broadcasters are still waiting to learn exactly how long the break will be.

A Worldwide Audience

The FIFA World Cup is already one of the most-watched sporting events on Earth. FIFA believes this halftime show could become one of the most-watched music performances ever, with an estimated 2 billion viewers tuning in around the globe.

That's almost one out of every four people on Earth!

Did You Know?

  • This is the first halftime show ever during a FIFA World Cup Final.

  • Shakira also performed at the tournament's opening ceremony.

  • The World Cup is being hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

  • BTS, Justin Bieber, Madonna, and Shakira will all perform together for the first time.

The Final Whistle

The 2026 FIFA World Cup Final is already expected to be an unforgettable match, but this year's halftime show is making history before the game even begins.

Whether you're watching for the soccer, the music, or both, fans around the world will get to experience something completely new. One thing is certain: this World Cup Final won't be like any before it.
