How Jaden Smith Is Helping Feed People in Need

In Los Angeles, California, there is an area called Skid Row. Many people there do not have homes and struggle to get food every day. But one young person decided to help in a big way. His name is Jaden Smith, and he started a project that gives free meals to people who need them most.
Jaden Smith is an actor, musician, and activist. He is also the son of actors Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith. Instead of only focusing on entertainment, Jaden has spent years working on ways to help communities. One of his biggest projects is called The I Love You Company, a nonprofit organization that provides food and clothing to people experiencing homelessness.
The project started with a simple idea: everyone deserves healthy food, no matter how much money they have.
To help make that idea real, Jaden launched the I Love You food truck on Skid Row. The truck gives out free vegan meals to people living in the area. At every event, volunteers serve up to 500 hot meals, along with bottles of water and donated clothing.
The meals are completely free for people who need them. There are no forms to fill out and no questions asked. Anyone who is hungry can eat.
But why vegan food?
Jaden believes that healthy food should be available to everyone. Many people experiencing homelessness often receive cheap or highly processed food. Jaden wanted to change that. He worked with chef and co-founder Tabitha Leeper to create meals that are both healthy and filling.
Vegan food does not contain animal products like meat, dairy, or eggs. It often includes vegetables, grains, beans, and plant-based proteins. These foods can be nutritious, sustainable, and better for the environment.
The project quickly grew beyond just a food truck. Jaden decided to take the idea even further by opening a restaurant called “I Love You.”
This restaurant works differently from most restaurants. It uses something called a pay-it-forward model.
Here’s how it works.
If someone cannot afford food, they can eat for free. If someone can afford to pay, they pay extra so another person can get a meal too. In other words, customers help cover the cost for people who are struggling.
The goal is not just to feed people but also to treat everyone with respect. Instead of feeling like charity, the restaurant feels like a community space where everyone is welcome.
Another important part of the project is community support. The I Love You Company partners with businesses and brands that want to help make a difference. Companies such as MSFTSrep, New Balance, and Samsung provide support that helps the program continue.
Thanks to these partnerships, the organization can keep serving food, handing out clothing, and organizing community events on Skid Row.
The name “I Love You” also has a special meaning.
Jaden was inspired by the ideas of Dr. Masaru Emoto, who believed that positive words could affect people in powerful ways. Psychologists also say hearing kind words can improve how people feel emotionally.
Because of this, Jaden wanted the organization to spread more than just food. He wanted to spread kindness, dignity, and hope. The name “I Love You” reminds people that everyone deserves care and respect.
Jaden’s vision for the future is even bigger. One day, he hopes to build an I Love You headquarters where people can receive three free meals every day. His long-term goal is to create locations in cities across the United States and eventually around the world.
The project shows how one idea can grow into something that helps thousands of people.
Jaden Smith’s work reminds us that solving big problems often starts with small actions. Whether it is sharing a meal, donating clothes, volunteering, or simply treating others with kindness, everyone can play a part in helping their community.
Even one act of generosity can make someone’s day better.
And sometimes, something as simple as saying “I love you” can make the world feel a little brighter.
