The New York Knicks have become the hottest topic and reached the top of the basketball world! After more than fifty years without a championship, the Knicks won the 2026 NBA Finals, defeating the San Antonio Spurs in five games. Their victory ended one of the longest championship droughts in NBA history and gave millions of loyal fans something they had been waiting decades to celebrate! Led by Finals MVP Jalen Brunson, the Knicks showed amazing teamwork and resilience throughout the playoffs, making this one of the most memorable seasons in franchise history.

The Knicks are one of the oldest and most famous teams in the NBA. The franchise was founded in 1946 and is based in New York City, and they play their home games at Madison Square Garden, often called "The World's Most Famous Arena." Throughout their history, the Knicks have built a passionate fan base known for staying loyal even during difficult seasons. Basketball legends such as Willis Reed, Walt “Clyde" Frazier, Patrick Ewing, and Carmelo Anthony have all worn the Knicks uniform and helped shape the team's legacy. Before 2026, the Knicks had won only two NBA championships. Their first title came in 1970, with Willis Reed who famously played through an injury in Game 7 of the NBA Finals. Their second championship occured in 1973. After that, the team experienced many ups and downs, as The Knicks made the NBA Finals in 1994 and again in 1999, but they lost both series. For decades afterward, they struggled to find any success, even missing the playoffs and rebuilding their roster. Despite the disappointing seasons, Knicks fans continued to support their team year after year.

But fortunately, everything changed during the 2025–2026 season. The Knicks developed into one of the league's best teams thanks to strong leadership from head coach Tom Thibodeau and great performances from MVP Jalen Brunson. Brunson was the team's leader with his scoring, passing, and clutch performances in important games during this season, but other key players also stepped up throughout the season, giving the Knicks one of the deepest and most balanced rosters in the NBA. Their teamwork and defense helped them defeat several talented playoff opponents on their way to the Finals.

In the NBA Finals, the Knicks faced the talented San Antonio Spurs. The series featured exciting games and several dramatic comebacks by New York. In Game 5, the Knicks erased a 16-point deficit before winning 94–90 to secure the championship. Jalen Brunson scored 45 points and was named NBA Finals MVP for his amazing performance throughout the series. The championship marked New York's first NBA title since 1973, ending a 53-year wait that many fans thought might never end!!

The championship celebration really showed just how much this victory meant to the city! Tons of fans packed the streets of Lower Manhattan for a ticker-tape parade on June 18th, wearing blue and orange while cheering for their team. Former Knicks legends joined the celebration alongside current players, and the city honored the team for bringing another championship to New York. Even the just last-year elected mayor of New York City was beaming during interviews about the win! The ticker-tape parade ended at City Hall, where Mayor Zohran Mamdani presented the players, coaches, and front office architect Leon Rose with Keys to the City (a symbolic honor given by the mayor of NYC for majorly successful teams). Additionally, Jalen Brunson gave a speech in celebration, thakning the front office for “believing in a kid that no one else would”, touching many hearts. For lifelong fans, it was an emotional moment because many had waited their entire lives to see the Knicks become champions again!
