Spider-Man’s Movie Magic
The beloved actor Tom Holland has been recently announced as the star in a yet another Marvel movie, Spider-Man: Brand New Day. This will be Holland’s fourth Spider-Man movie, and he’s clearly very excited. Sony shared a behind the scenes clip where Holland said, “I feel good, man. It’s day one, my fourth ever day one on Spider-Man …You know, it’s funny, putting the suit on, it feels different this time, somehow. It’s also the first time we’ve ever had fans on set for day one, so it’s really exciting to share this with them.”
In August 2025, fans in Glasgow, Scotland, were shocked to see explosions and chase scenes happening right in their streets. But they weren’t in danger, it was just Holland filming the upcoming movie. The city was dressed up to look just like New York, and stunt doubles filled in for Spider-Man as he leapt across cars and dodged fireballs. But, after seeing the filming, it raised the question, how do filmmakers make it look so epic? Well the answer is green screens!
Most superhero movies, like previous Spider-Man films, are usually filmed on giant indoor sets or sound stages where the background is added later using green screens and special effects. This helps keep actors safe during dangerous stunts and lets filmmakers control everything perfectly. But Spider-Man: Brand New Day is doing something different, many action scenes are being filmed on real streets, like in Glasgow, which is dressed up to look like New York City. Real explosions, smoke, and stunts are happening right there, making the movie feel more real and grounded. This mix of real locations and green screen magic helps bring the story to life in an exciting new way!
Firstly, What’s a Green Screen?
A green screen is a giant piece of bright green fabric or paint. When actors perform in front of it, movie makers can digitally erase the green and replace it with anything they want, a city, outer space, or even a burning building!
That’s how Spider-Man can swing across New York when the actor is actually standing on a set somewhere else, but this wouldn’t be possible without the behind-the-scenes team.
Behind every awesome action scene, there’s a whole team of creative people working together:
Visual Effects Artists (VFX) use computers to add buildings, explosions, or webs.
Stunt Doubles safely perform the risky moves that actors can’t do themselves.
Directors decide how the scene should look and feel.
Camera Crews film from the perfect angle to make it feel real.
Even the music and sound effects are added later to make every moment more exciting!
The reason green is used is because it's very different from skin tones and most clothes, so it’s easy to remove on a computer! Sometimes, blue screens are used instead, like in underwater scenes or when actors wear green costumes.
Tom Holland is really excited about Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and so are the fans! This will be his fourth Spider-Man movie, and it’s a fresh new story where Peter Parker is more on his own, without fancy gadgets or big superhero teams. He even has a new suit that looks a lot like the classic Spider-Man from the comics.
They’re filming a lot of real action scenes on streets like in Glasgow, and mixing that with green screen effects and cool computer magic to make everything look amazing. So, when you see Spider-Man swinging through the city or dodging danger, it’s not just his superpowers, it’s also the hard work of many people behind the scenes that makes the movie so awesome!
Spider-Man: Brand New Day will come out in 2026, and fans are super excited to see what happens next!
